THE FEELING: An Experience

“Wow, it’s amazing!”, “I am scared”, “I will hit him”, “I love him” ....... so many words to express yourself. Have you ever noticed what are you expressing? Yes, your emotions. Merriam Webster dictionary describes emotions as “a conscious mental reaction (such as anger or fear) subjectively experienced as strong feeling usually directed toward a specific object and typically accompanied by physiological and behavioral changes in the body”. And when you ask someone the experience of these emotions, they are speechless. The commonest answer is “I don’t know”. Emotions are the reactions to feelings experienced in the body that results in actions.
Feelings are rooted deep in our unconscious mind and are perceived through the senses, sight, touch, smell, taste and hearing. To address them one really has to be in check with the unconscious. In Psychology, feelings are described as the perception of events within the body, closely related to emotion. These feelings can be pleasant or unpleasant. Pleasant when happy, enjoying, in love etc and often unpleasant when afraid, angry, sad, disappointed, depressed etc.
We all are aware of the mechanism of a machine. An input leads to an output after processing. Similarly, our body which is also a machine produces an output i.e. emotion after an input i.e. a stimulus after processing i.e. after experiencing the stimulus, thus creating a ‘state’. When this ‘state’ disturbs the balance of our mind and/or body, it certainly manifests a disease. Homeopathic remedies help bring these states in harmony with the self.
All my patients will agree when I say, a good homeopathic case taking is one of the best ways to make oneself aware of the feelings. Whenever I ask a patient, how does xyz make you feel? Common answers are “l do not know”, “I don’t like it”, “I want run away from it”, I don’t want to have” “I want to stop feeling it”. Ahh!!! I am sure this is the story with every homeopath. This journey from conscious to unconscious mind occurs during homeopathic case taking. And this is the reason it is said that “a well taken case, is half cured”, because when you become aware of your feelings, you start walking to the path of healing. Of course, there are people who even after knowing their feelings, suffer from grievous illnesses, thus require repeated doses of homeopathic medicines.
Responding to occult influences i.e. being ‘sensitive’ is what makes us human. Our sign of sensitivity is not a sign of weakness. It makes us different, makes us unique. We live in a world where it’s easier to pretend that you do not feel, and if you dare to express that you feel, you become an easy target to be picked on and hurt. So, from young age, you are taught strength means hiding how you feel, or not to express your feelings at all. I want you to ask yourself, if you don’t feel, how can you truly love? If you don’t feel, how can you empathize with the tragedies happening in the world? If you are sensitive to being disrespected, it means you will never disrespect others because you know how it feels to be disrespected. If you are sensitive to ignore or lie to, it means you will never ignore or lie to others because you know how it feels to be ignored or lied to. Promise yourself from today to be at peace with your sensitivity, your feelings. It’s a wonderful experience to perceive feelings through our senses. Instead of trying to hide it, cherish it!
